On 20 September 2024, Synergy Biomed Research Institute (SBRI), in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Department of Health, successfully hosted the inaugural Clinical Trials Symposium in the province. This event marked a significant milestone in advancing clinical research and fostering collaboration among stakeholders dedicated to improving health outcomes in the region.

The symposium brought together a diverse group of professionals, including researchers, healthcare providers, and policy makers. Participants engaged in fruitful discussions about current clinical trials and recent developments in clinical research. The exchange of ideas and experiences highlighted the commitment to enhancing research capacity within the Eastern Cape, a region facing significant health challenges.

One of the key themes of the day was the importance of community involvement in clinical trials. By incorporating local voices into research initiatives, SBRI aims to ensure that studies are relevant and beneficial to the communities they serve. This approach not only enhances the quality of research but also builds trust between researchers and participants.

The symposium featured presentations from the Foundation for Professional Development, Nelson Mandela Academic Clinical Research Unit, Isango Lethemba, Rhodes University, and SAMRC (South African Medical Research Council), showcasing innovative projects and collaborative efforts. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from one another, share insights, and explore potential partnerships that could lead to groundbreaking advancements in healthcare.

SBRI is proud to be at the forefront of research capacity development in South Africa. With a commitment to excellence and a vision for a healthier future, SBRI is dedicated to tackling pressing health issues through rigorous clinical trials. The enthusiasm displayed at the symposium reflects a shared belief among stakeholders that together, they can create a brighter future for healthcare in the province.

As we look ahead, SBRI remains optimistic about the potential for growth and innovation in clinical research, paving the way for improved health outcomes across the Eastern Cape.
