On October 23, 2024, Jabulani’s Rural Health Foundation took a significant step towards empowering rural youth by attending an immersive Career Expo in Clinical Research, at Synergy Biomed Research Institute (SBRI). This event aimed to bridge the gap between young women in rural South Africa and potential career opportunities in the healthcare sector, particularly in clinical research.
In the heart of rural South Africa, Jabulani’s Rural Health Foundation has been at the forefront of addressing the injustices and inequalities faced by marginalized communities, especially those with disabilities. Recognizing the intricate link between healthcare, education, and economic empowerment, the foundation adopts a holistic approach that encompasses accessible healthcare services, educational opportunities, and social integration.
During the Career Expo, eight young women from the foundation visited SBRI to explore various career paths in clinical research. The event provided these aspiring professionals with invaluable insights into clinical trials and research methodologies. Participants had the opportunity to engage with experts in the field, meeting our Medical, Pharmaceutical, Laboratory, Administrative Data and Community Teams, and gaining firsthand knowledge about the diverse roles available within clinical research and related sectors.
The expo not only focused on career exploration but also aimed to build confidence and self-advocacy among these young women. By fostering an environment of learning and networking, Jabulani’s Rural Health Foundation is helping to dismantle barriers that often impede access to healthcare careers for rural youth.
